Andrey Rublev v Novak Djokovic Head to Head

It is 1-1 from their previous meetings. Djokovic won at the ATP Finals last year, while the Russian got his revenge in the Serbia Open final this year.

Rublev Rallies Past Medvedev

Andrey Rublev may be the only player in the Red Group who has not won the ATP Finals title before, but the Russian made a great start to the tournament on Monday, edging past compatriot Daniil Medvedev in a three-set opener.

Rublev broke early in the first set to lead 1-4, before Medvedev pulled the break back to send the set back on serve. Rublev then missed out on two set points on Medvedev’s serve at 5-6, and then threw away a 2-6 lead in the tiebreak as Medvedev made a remarkable recovery to take a one-set-to-love lead.

Rublev fought back in the second, breaking the world no. 5 twice to force the decider. The final set also went into the tiebreak, which saw Rublev build a 6-3 lead. Medvedev bounced back once again saving four match points but he couldn’t save a fifth later in the contest allowing Rublev to complete a remarkable 6-7 (7-9), 6-3, 7-6 (9-7) comeback win.

The win was the world no. 7’s 50th victory of the season.

The 12-time tour-level champion is chasing his fifth title of the season and a first in the season finale. Both his previous appearances in the ATP Finals ended in disappointing exits in the round robin stage.

But he has made a good start this year and is second in the table behind Novak Djokovic after the first set of matches in the group. Can he pull off another win on Wednesday?

Djokovic Improves to 10-2 Against Tsitsipas

Five-time champion Novak Djokovic made a brilliant start at the ATP Finals tournament on Monday, defeating the second seed Stefanos Tsitsiaps in straight sets and extending his lead over the Greek to 10-2.

This was Djokovic’s 14th win in his last 15 matches. He had won back-to-back finals in Tel Aviv and Astana but fell in the title clash at the Paris Masters to Holger Rune.

Djokovic, who defeated Tsitsipas for the fourth time this year, has now won the last nine matches in a row against the Greek. He got a break in the very first game of Monday’s opener and then held on to the advantage to take the first set. There were no breaks in the second set, which went into the tiebreak. Djokovic built a healthy 5-1 lead in the tiebreak. The Greek pulled a break back but eventually lost the set and the match.

Djokovic won 82% points on his first serve and struck 33 winners during the 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) victory.

Looking to equal Roger Federer’s record of six ATP Finals titles, Djokovic improved his tournament record to 42-17. The Serb last won an ATP Finals title in 2015 and finished runners-up in 2016 and 2018.

With a dominating opening performance, the 21-time Grand Slam champion has made his intentions clear in this year’s season finale. It will be interesting to see if he can keep the momentum going over the next few days.

Djokovic v Rublev Prediction and Tip

Djokovic is playing at a very high level over the last one month and he was also remarkable in his win over the world no. 3 on Monday. Expect the Serb to continue delivering in the tournament. He is expected to win against Rublev and stay on top of the Red Group.
