Veteran Mannarino Adds a Title in 2022

Having started playing competitively in 2004, Mannarino had won just one ATP title coming into the 2022 season. At 34, Mannarino is in the twilight of his career and expecting him to adding to that solitary tournament win wasn’t the most probable option.

That’s exactly what happened though.

In a shock result, Mannarino defeated six opponents on his way to clinching the Winston-Salem Open. It was also a combination of this result along with the Atlanta Open quarterfinal appearance that helped Mannarino rise from the depths of being ranked 86th in the world to a season-high of 42nd.

Mannarino, however, did not have a great end to the season with four successive losses under belt.

Known to be a better hard court player than any other surface, the Frenchman will however, start off with some confidence against a clay-court specialist.

Coria Loses Steam Towards the End of 2022

Back to back quarterfinal appearances at Buenos Aires and Rio in February and then a semifinal showing in Marrakesh in April helped Coria break new ground. At the end of April, he was ranked 52nd in the world, which was also his career-best ranking.

Unfortunately for Coria, things did not go as well as he would have liked after that.

The Argentine won just six matches at the highest level in the period between the first week of May and the end of the season – that’s about six months of tennis for six victories.

Part of the problem is Coria’s issues away from clay. The Argentine barely features on non-clay surfaces and is forced to hunt for the Challenger circuit to get himself a clay court competition.

Which is what could become a problem here as well, because of the hard court surfaces of United Cup, things could get equally tough. Despite Coria facing a 34-year-old opponent first up.

Mannarino v Coria Prediction and Tip

Mannarino is a whopping 1/3 favourite to win and unless something drastically goes wrong we don’t see why that result won’t happen. Straight-set win for Mannarino expected.
