Stan Wawrinka v Alexander Bublik Head to Head
There have been two previous encounters between these players and both came in 2022. Bublik was a winner in both, having defeated Wawrinka at Monte-Carlo and Metz.

Facing off against Matteo Berrettini and Andrey Rublev in the Diriyah Tennis Cup exhibition tournament, Wawrinka won both those encounters to reach the semifinal of that competition.
And while he lost to Daniil Medvedev there, Wawrinka would be chuffed about the manner in which he fought his way through to three-set victories in the first two rounds. Against some of the top players no less.
Wawrinka did struggle through most part of the previous season – at one point he went through a phase of six matches without a victory – but he did show what he is still capable of at the Metz Open.
The Swiss player stunned Medvedev on his way to the semifinal as a qualifier before retiring from his match against Bublik.

Bublik Coming off Maiden ATP Title in 2022
It was a year to remember for Bublik as he made it to three ATP finals in 2022. One of them, at Montpellier, resulted in Bublik winning his maiden ATP title as well, and while he lost in the finals at Newport and Metz, he wouldn’t want to forget this season in a hurry.
His performances helped him touch a career-high of 30th in the world, and while he fell down to 47th later in the season, it doesn’t take away from his showing throughout the season.
Bublik will need to be careful of the surface though – outdoor hardcourt tournaments aren’t his favourite and he had won just five of the 13 matches he played in 2022 in them.
And against a player who has a pedigree enough to have won the Australian and US Open in his career, Bublik might find the going tough.

Wawrinka starts off a very minor favourite and despite his fitness concerns last year, we have to give it to him to edge this one against a player who hasn’t had a great hardcourt record.
