Davidovich-Fokina’s First Match Since Paris Masters

Davidovich-Fokina has yet to enjoy singles success on the senior tour, although he did win the doubles in 2020 at the Chile Open, where he was partnered by compatriot Carballes-Baena.

However, his highlight of the 2022 season was undoubtedly reaching the final of the Monte Carlo Masters, before he was beaten by Stefanos Tsitsipas in two tight sets.

And, in reaching the final, he beat the then world number one Novak Djokovic, the best result of his career to date.

Like many Spanish players, clay is his preferred surface, and his results tend to drop off when he moves away from it, although he did defy expectations by reaching the fourth round of the US Open in New York.

However, he had a poor end to the season, failing to win a match after that in four successive events, the last of which was the Paris Masters.

He has not played since then.

NextGen Winner Nakashima

2022 was another fine season for Nakashima, who had burst on to the scene the previous year by reaching two finals, losing in Los Cabos and Atalanta.

However, in San Diego he put that right, beating Marcos Giron to win his first senior title, and his performances over the season were good enough to earn him a place in the NextGen Finals in Milan, for the best young players in the world.

And Nakashima confirmed his status by winning the event, beating the Czech Jiri Lehecka in straight sets in the final.

All that meant that he ended the season with a career high ranking.

This will be his first competitive match since Italy, but he will be looking at breaking into the top 30 as his next major target.

Davidovich-Fokina v Nakashima Prediction and Tip

Although Davidovich-Fokina is the higher ranked and seeded player, the surface is much more to the liking of the American player, and he should make that advantage count for him.
