Daniil Medvedev v John Millman Head to Head

Medvedev and Millman have never played each other before this.

Medvedev Routs Giron in Opener

He has been a two-time finalist and while Medvedev would have felt aggrieved at not having added the Australian Open title last year to his list of tournament victories, he looks to have returned to tennis with a refreshed mindset.

And that showed in Medvedev’s first round win over Marcos Giron.

Medvedev was involved in probably the shortest match of the day in the men’s singles draw as he jogged past Giron 6-0, 6-1, 6-2 in an hour and 37 minutes to make the second round.

Saving six break-points in the encounter, Medvedev hit 29 winners but was also aided by his opponent’s 33 unforced errors which tipped the scales in his favour.

Come the second round, it will be a performance like this that will keep Medvedev in a good stead as he looks to go deep into the competition following a struggle for form following his Australian Open 2022 final debacle.

Millman Fights Back to Beat Huesler

While on the one hand Medvedev was involved in a quick opening workout, his opponent in the second round, Millman needed to huff and puff to a fighting win.

Millman came back from two sets to one down to win in five against Marc-Andrea Huesler, with the match lasting four hours and eight minutes. Ranked 140th in the world, Millman was broken just once in the encounter as he staved off his opponent’s 69 winners and 20 aces to carve out the win.

After frittering away three set-points in the first set, Millman came back to level the match in the second. He came back from a break down to push the third set into a tie-breaker before losing that but then came into his own to ease to a 6-2, 6-3 win in the final two.

The Aussie had earlier crashed out of the Adelaide International 1 qualifiers before entering round two at the Adelaide International 2. Can he provide Medvedev with a bit of a fight here?

Medvedev v Millman Prediction and Tip

Medvedev looked scary good in the first round and while Millman will have some home support, the Russian might have gotten smarter from having learnt from his mistakes from the previous season. Expect him to romp home yet again.
