Gasquet has had bit of a mixed fortune in 2023 so far. In the three tournaments he has played so far, the French 36-year-old has been knocked out in the first two at two of them including the Australian Open where he fell to another Frenchman Ugo Humbert.
In the third tournament he featured in at Auckland, Gasquet won his first ever ATP title in five years as he defeated David Goffin and Cameron Norrie on his way to doing that.
It was a performance worthy of acclaim though.
Here’s a veteran of over two decades of tennis at a professional level who has been in the top 10 at his peak. In more recent times his ranking has fallen as you would expect but for Gasquet to come back and actually win a title in this day and age of supreme athleticism speaks volumes about his ability to remain current in the world of tennis.

Fils at Career-Best Too
While Fils has played in only one main draw match at the highest level before this, his solid performances on the Challenger circuit have allowed him to gain quite a few spots on the ATP Rankings already.
As recently as 12 months ago, the then-17-year-old was ranked outside the top 600 on the ATP charts.
Today Fils is at his career-best ranking of 164th, thanks to his qualification at the Paris Masters last season and his maiden Challenger title this year.
At Paris Masters 2022, Fils qualified for the tournament by defeating Fabio Fognini before he fell to the same opponent in the first round. This year, Fils has a win-loss record of 9-1 that includes a title win at Oeiras and a runner-up trophy at Quimper.
