Previous Finalist Schwartzman Hoping for Fortune Turnaround

Slowly but steadily, Schwartzman’s performances and as a result of that, his ranking has slipped down the charts. It was in 2020 that Schwartzman had broken into the top 10 and hit a career-high of eighth in the world.

Since then, the Argentine has finished the 2021 season with a ranking of 13th and last year he was 25th in the world when the tennis ended.

And with just one win from three matches this year so far, Schwartzman has slipped a further three spots already. He came through in the first round of the Australian Open but losses on either side of that win means he enters the clay court swing with a hope to do a lot better.

It’s a well-known fact that Schwartzman is a clay-courter but it’s not like he had had a great time on this surface last season. He did make it through to a couple of finals but would have liked to win at least one title, not to mention do better than the fourth round ouster at the French Open.

Can he get into some momentum for the season here?

Cerundolo Wins First ATP Match

If Schwartzman is a clay-court specialist who can make it count on other surfaces if multiple factors go his way, Cerundolo takes it a notch further on this surface.

The world number 114 hasn’t played in a non-clay tournament since March 2022 when he participated in the Miami Masters and made the third round. Clay court Challengers and ATP tournaments are all that he’s featured in in the ensuing 11 months, including the whole of January.

And Cerundolo has done well too this season, winning titles at the Tigre Challenger and Tigre 2 Challenger before finally going down in the quarterfinal at Concepcion.

He’s made the second round here on the back of a win over Pablo Andujar who retired from the encounter in the second set after losing the first.

Can Cerundolo put up a fight against a top-30 player?

Schwartzman v Cerundolo Prediction and Tip

Schwartzman might be more than 80 places ahead of his opponent but is only 8/11 to win this and those are tempting odds to be honest. Might see a third set though.
