Quentin Halys v Arthur Fils Head to Head

This will be their first tour level meeting, however they met once at the Challenger level last year with Halys prevailing in three.

Halys Upsets the Fifth Seed

Quentin Halys knocked out the fifth seed Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in straight sets on Thursday to move into his second quarterfinal of the season.

The world no. 70 had made it to the last eight in Auckland but he couldn’t go beyond that stage after he was stopped by Jenson Brooksby. Apart from the American, Halys has only lost to Novak Djokoivc (second round in Adelaide) and Stefanos Tsitsipas (first round in Australian Open) in the four tournaments this year.

Halys has otherwise shown great form against lower ranked opponents and will be the favourite to progress from his quarterfinal clash.

Halys, who struck 25 aces in his opening round win over Clement Chidekh, added 11 more against Davidovich Fokina. He also won 90% points on his first serve, saved all the three break points that he faced and converted three of seven to oust the world no. 32, 6-3, 6-3.

Halys, who had won three Challenger titles from seven finals last year, had earlier beaten ATP debutant Chidekh in a hard-fought three-set battle.

Can the 26-year-old continue marching forward in the tournament?

Fils Stuns Bautista Agut

Eighteen-year-old Arthur Fils is having a moment. The Frenchman, who stunned veteran Richard Gasquet in the first round, shocked fourth seed Roberto Bautista Agut in the second round to reach his maiden ATP quarterfinal.

As a result of the win, Fils improved his season record to 11-1. He had begun the season by winning his maiden Challenger title in Oeiras 6 and then made it to the final of the Quimper Challenger before going down to Gregoire Barrere.

At Montpellier, Fils is playing his first tour-level tournament in 2023 and the wild card has been extremely impressive so far. He toughed it out against Gasquet for a 7-5, 7-5 victory and then ousted Bautista Agut 6-3, 6-3.

The world no. 163 served eight aces, saved half of the four break points that he faced and converted half of the eight that he held to send the world no. 24 packing.

Can Fils keep his extraordinary run going in the tournament?

Halys v Fils Prediction and Tip

Given the quality of opponents that Fils has beaten in the tournament and also his overall form this year, Halys will be wary of the younger pro. This one could go the distance with the experienced Halys knocking out the 2021 French Open junior runner-up.
