Adrian Mannarino v Daniel Altmaier Head to Head

The pair have never played each other before. This will be the first match between the 34 year old Frenchman, and the German, who is a decade younger.

Dallas Quarter-Finalist Mannarino

Mannarino can look back on last year with some satisfaction, having ended his long wait for a second ATP title in Winston Salem, where he beat the Serbian Laslo Djere in the final.

He was also runner-up in the doubles at the Astana Open.

Consistency has always been an issue for the Frenchman though – between February and June last year he struggled to win a match, a run that began with his quarter-final defeat in Delray Beach to Reilly Opelka.

He has had mixed fortunes so far this year. He won one and lost one playing for France in the United Cup, and then was beaten in the opening round in Auckland.

At the Australian Open he went one stage further, beaten in the second round by Alex de Minaur in three sets.

However, he reached his first quarter-final in Dallas last week, beating both Steve Johnson and Jordan Thompson, before suffering a straight sets defeat to Wibing Yu of China, the world number 97.

Altmaier Ended His Losing Streak in Dallas

Last week in Dallas, Altmaier ended a losing streak on the main tour that dated back to last June, when he beat an American qualifier in the first round to earn himself a match-up with the fifth seed John Isner.

Unfortunately the American proved too strong for him, using his powerful serve to good effect.

Still, for the German, it was important to get that psychological monkey off his back, even if he had won on the Challenger tour more recently.

In fact, he claimed three Challenger titles in the course of 2022, and was runner-up in another final, and, in the absence of Alexander Zverev was the number one German player for a while.

The fact that Zverev is back and playing again may take some of the pressure off him.

Mannarino v Altmaier Prediction and Tip

Despite Mannarino’s problems with consistency he will be confident of beating the German whose struggles for form on the main tour have lasted a lot longer. Altmaier will at least aim to be competitive in this match.
