Denis Kudla v Jordan Thompson Head to Head
Inclusive of the Challenger circuit and the qualifying rounds at the highest level, there have been five previous meetings between these two players and Thompson leads 4-1. Interestingly, they faced off at Dallas just last week and Thompson had won that opening round encounter in straight sets.

It’s not been the best of starts for Kudla this year but he has been fortunate enough to see his ranking improve from a second low of 108th in the world to the current 92nd. This has been thanks to his participation in the main draw of the Australian Open despite losing in the qualifiers.
After victories in the first two qualifiers at the season’s first major, Kudla fell to Oleksii Krutykh in the third round there. The story should have ended there, except he made it to the main draw as a lucky loser and went on to defeat Roman Safiullin in the opening round.
Kudla has, since that win, lost successive matches on the ATP Tour.
He fell to Ugo Humbert in the second round of the Australian Open and then fell to Jordan Thompson last week at the Dallas opener. Between that, Kudla did win a Davis Cup match against Uzbekistan’s Amir Milushev but even that was a struggle against a player who isn’t ranked on the circuit.
What needs to be seen is if he can turn that around and avenge that loss to the world number 84.

Thompson Finally Wins a Match
It’s taken Thompson four tournaments to finally win a main draw match and it came last week at the Dallas Open where he overcame – yep you guessed it – Kudla in the opener. He lost in the second round to Adrian Mannarino.
Thompson had earlier featured in three tournaments, losing to Quentin Halys at the Adelaide International, failing to qualify for the Adelaide International 2 and falling in the first round of the Australian Open to JJ Wolf.
Amidst all of this, Thompson also featured in an exhibition tournament in Kooyong but lost to Brandon Nakashima in the only match he played there.
With this being his record for the year and with Thompson having won just six of his previous 19 main draw ATP matches, this might not be the easiest of results.
Kudla v Thompson Prediction and Tip
While Thompson is a favourite, there is always a string of bad losses to look back to for him and Kudla isn’t a player who can be trifled with. Could see an upset here.
