Daniel Elahi Galan v Camilo Carabelli Head to Head

This will be their first meeting at the highest level. Three previous matches on the Challengers and Futures circuit have yielded three wins for Galan.

Galan 0-3 for the Season

It’s been the kind of start to the season that Galan would like to forget quickly and turn things around.

Featuring in two tournaments in the Australian Open Swing, Galan won just one set across the two first round matches he played. An injury at the Adelaide International made him retire from his opening round encounter against Mackenzie McDonald before he lost in four to Jeremy Chardy at the Australian Open.

A switch to clay should have made some difference to his fortunes but that hasn’t happened yet with Galan going down in his opener at Cordoba last week.

The Colombian player lost to Marcelo Vera Barrios in the first round there in straight sets despite being a marginal favourite in it.

Can he turn things around against a player ranked 127th on the ATP charts?

Carabelli Hoping to Convert Challenger Form

Carabelli’s transition from a Futures player to one who has become a consistent name on the Challenger circuit came in 2021 when he won his first ever title there. A couple of losses in Challengers finals followed but in 2022, Carabelli added a couple of tournament victories on the Challenger circuit.

Needless to say, all these five finals over the last year and a half have come on clay.

More recently, however, Carabelli hasn’t quite been able to go deep into competitions and as a result of that, his ranking has suffered. Once ranked 96th in the world, Carabelli has now fallen to 127th and one of his primary goals is to try and improve on that as he bids to qualify for the French Open as a direct entry.

After all, it was at the French Open last year he won his first – and only – main draw match at the highest level.

Can he now add another one to his name here?

Galan v Carabelli Prediction and Tip

Galan’s form makes it difficult for us to back him. Carabelli for a win here but we could see three sets in the match.
