Laura Siegemund v Ana Bogdan Head to Head

It is 1-0 to Siegemund; they last met in the 2018 WTA Rabat, where Laura won the match 6-4, 6-1.

Bogdan Seeking her First Main-Draw Win

2023 so far has not been kind to Ana Bogdan. She is 3-5, with all three victories coming in qualifiers.

Two of those came this weekend in Dubai when she beat Clara Burel and Tereza Martincova to reach the main draw. Those victories should boost her confidence, especially considering her opponent hasn’t been in the best of form herself.

Before this, the 30-year-old Romanian played in Doha, where she lost to Karolina Pliskova in the prelims. In Lyon and Australian Open, Bogdan competed in the main draw but couldn’t make it past the opener. In Adelaide tournaments, she incurred the same fate of losing in the qualifiers.

This also marks the start of a dramatic turnaround from the 2022 season, where Ana won two titles across Challenger and ITF circuits and reached the final in the Poland Open. She closed the year at an impressive 38-17.

Siegemund in a Similar Tide

34-year-old German Laura Siegemund has had a similar run; her tally stands at 5-6.

Over the weekend, she beat the seeded stars like Cristina Bucsa and Claire Liu in the qualifiers to reach the main event. Before this, it was a litany of early exits in Doha and Abu Dhabi for the World No. 130.

In the Melbourne Slam, however, Laura did reach the third round, while in Hobart International, she won the doubles title with Kirsten Flipkens. Things have not been as dire as they have been for Bogdan, but there is room for improvement.

Perhaps, after beating the youngsters in the qualifiers, she may find herself in high spirits. Of course, her illustrious career can also help her case – stretching over 15 years, including 28 ITF, 14 WTA doubles, and three singles finals.

Bogdan v Siegemund Prediction and Tip

76th-ranked Bogdan is the odds-on favourite for this match, but in all likelihood, it can go either way. Siegmund’s massive experience cannot be undermined, while Ana’s shaky form doesn’t exactly inspire confidence either. Expect a close affair.
