Katie Volynets is a talented player who has been talked about out for a while now but she’s yet to make a proper brekathrough. This year started off well down under as she posted a 6-2 record so far. The hopes is that that extends in Merida but it’s going to be tough.
Volynets didn’t venture much otuside of the US as a pro and it’s certainly something that she will need to get used to. The American player has a pretty standard game with a solid serve and grounstrokes dangerous of doing damage. She moves well despite not being the tallest of players.
Hard courts are her best surface but she’s mostly used to American hard courts. How she adjusts to those in Merida will be pretty crucial.
It’s a winnable match for her but she’ll need to be play pretty well overall and hold her serve. That will be the key.

Nothing Special From Bronzetti
Lucia Bronzetti is fimrly ranked inside the top 100 but her level so far this year might have been a bit lower. Generally a very tough player to play against, Bronzetti somewhat struggled at the start of this year and she’s currently on a 4-match losing streak.
The Australian Open doesn’t ahve the type of conditions she loves the most because she does better indoors than outdoors although it depends. She’s a very streaky player who is capable of keeping the ball in play for a long time due to her clay background.
Hard courts are not her favourite surface but she will love these in Mexico because they generally play a bit slower than usual.
It certainly won’t be as fast as in Australia and that will give her a good cahnce in this matchup. She’ll need to avoid the errors though, that’ can be a problem for her.

It’s a matchup where either player could win and that’s reflected in the odd. I somehow lean towards Bronzetti to win the match because I think she’ll handle the conditions a bit better.
