Alycia Parks v Fernanda Contreras Gomez Head to Head

Contreras Gomez leads the rivalry 2-0. What’s more, she won both her matches in straight sets.

Parks in Terrific Form

Alycia Parks may have been beaten in the first round of her previous tournament in Linz, but she will be high on confidence as she heads to Merida, having clinched her maiden WTA title in Lyon two weeks ago.

The 22-year-old American ousted world no. 5 Caroline Garcia in straight sets to claim her first tour-level title and also secure her second top 10 victory.

Last year, she had beaten Maria Sakkari in Ostrava for her first top 10 win. She had also beaten Karolina Pliskova in the first round of that tournament before falling in the quarterfinals to Barbora Krejcikova.

Parks has blossomed as a player of the last couple of months. Following her strong showing in Ostrava, she won back-to-back WTA Challenger titles in December. Having never made it to the final of a WTA 125 tournament, Parks defeated Rebecca Peterson for the WTA 125 Andorra title and then beat Anna-Lena Friedsam in the WTA 125 final in Angers.

Those two wins helped her finish 2022 with 10 consecutive wins.

In 2023, she lost out in the second qualifying round at the Australian Open, before going on to win the title in Lyon. She couldn’t continue the winning streak in Linz though as she was knocked out in the first round by Anhelina Kalinina.

Currently sitting on a career-high ranking of no. 51, she will be looking to return to winning ways in Merida and continue her climb up the rankings.

Contreras Gomez Looking to Make an Impression at Home

World no. 170 Fernanda Contreras Gomez will be playing her first tour-level match of the season on Monday.

The Mexican has played in five lower level tournaments this year, including the Australian Open qualifiers, but has registered just two wins and both those wins came in the WTA 125 in Cali, Colombia.

Contreras Gomez defeated Marine Partaud and Xiaodi You in the first two rounds of the clay court tournament before falling to eventual champion Nadia Podorosko in the quarterfinal.

She failed to win any of her matches in the other four tournaments, which means she is 0-3 on hard courts this year.

The 25-year-old has two ITF titles from four finals in her career so far, but she did not reach a single final last year. Can she impress in front of home fans in Merida?

Parks v Contreras Gomez Prediction and Tip

Parks has been in excellent form recently. She has not only rubbed shoulders with some high-quality opponents over the last five months, but has also succeeded in beating top names consistently. She is expected to go deep in Merida. Expect her to make a fast start in the opener.
