Podoroska Finds Form On ITF Tour

Nadia Podoroska has been to a Grand Slam semifinal. She was also ranked as high as 36th in the world rankings. But those accomplishments seem a long time ago now, with the Argentine outside the top 100.

Injuries have mostly played a part in bringing Podoroska’s ranking to three digits.

But she has since done some gutsy work on the ITF Tour as she works herself up the WTA ladder. Podoroska won her first title in three years at the WTA 125K in Cali – the biggest title of her career, taking her to within a touching distance of a top 100 place.

It was on the clay in Colombia and Podoroska didn’t need time to adapt and transition to hard courts in her subsequent tournaments.

In fact, she has played two more ITF tournaments in the lead-up to the Merida Open. First, she made the semifinal at the W60 Mexico ITF, and a week later she advanced into the quarterfinal in Irapuato.

Peterson Narrowly Escapes Zhao

Rebecca Peterson is also another player painstakingly working her way in the lower rungs of women’s tennis in order to reclaim her top 100 status.

This week, she was required to qualify for the main draw in Merida, beating French one-hander Diane Parry and Canada’s world No. 166 Carol Zhao.

Despite being as low as 1/6 to beat Zhao, Peterson was taken into a first-set tiebreak which she won. Then she withstood a charge of energy from her opponent who struck to take the second set 6-4.

However, the Swede’s consistency and retrieval skills gave her the edge down the stretch earning the crucial break in the decider to seal the match.

Podoroska v Peterson Prediction and Tip

Both players have sprung into life playing on the ITF Tour. Peterson is probably the player who has more upside to her game on this surface. But we recommend taking the games spread here.
