Camila Giorgi v Nuria Parrizas Diaz Head to Head

Giorgi and Parrizas Diaz have never played each other in a tennis match at any level before this.

Giorgi Eases Past Sherif

It’s been a modest start to the season for Giorgi but she has done well to start things off in Merida with a win.

The world number 68 won her fourth match of the season as she overcame Sherif in straight sets to reach the second round. Giorgi won 6-4, 6-2 in an hour and 18 minutes.

Having gotten knocked out in the second round in Linz after reaching the third round of the Australian Open, Giorgi was clinical in the first set as she faced no break-points while overcoming her opponent’s serve once.

It was in the second that both women lost their serves in successive games early in the set only for Giorgi to win four in a row to claim the win.

Can she now up the ante against a player of the quality of Parrizas Diaz?

Parrizas Diaz Stretched by Konjuh

Ana Konjuh had needed two qualifying wins to come through and make the main draw and put up a fine show in the opener before Parrizas Diaz got the better of her in three sets.

In a match lasting nearly two and a half hours, Parrizas Diaz lost her serve twice but broke Konjuh five times to pocket a 6-4, 6-7 (2), 6-2 win.

Things looked to be going the way of Parrizas Diaz when she broke Konjuh early in the first set, got another three opportunities to break her in the very next game but never faced a break-point on her own serve.

And when she went 4-2 up in the second, the writing seemed to be on the wall for Konjuh. Except it wasn’t as Konjuh fought back to push the set into a tie-breaker which she won.

That, however, looked to have taken its toll on Konjuh and Parrizas Diaz managed to make it through easily in the third set.

This follows a three-match losing streak for Parrizas Diaz, which could be relief-inducing but also give an insight into how poor her form has been.

Giorgi v Parrizas Diaz Prediction and Tip

Giorgi will be our pick to clinch a place in the last eight with a relatively easy second round win. Might even see a straight-setter here.
