Will Niemeier Pick Up Wins in Monterrey?

Jule Niemeier is not winning a lot of matches. And that is not good for confidence. In six tournaments in 2023, she has managed two wins, beating Olga Danilovic in Lyon and Sofia Kenin in Linz respectively.

But of her seven defeats this year, three have come against top-20 opposition including World No. 1 Iga Swiatek who beat Niemeier in a tight first-round match at last month’s Australian Open.

The German knows she needs to overcome the mental hiccups that seem to engulf her game. She has looked in a control in a few of her matches this year and if she can just manage to overcome that mental barrier, she will turn those close defeats into victory.

Last week, Niemeier fell to Panna Udvardy of Hungary in two tiebreak sets in the first round of the Merida Open.

Dolehide Beats Zacarias to Qualify

Caroline Dolehide took the option of not playing on home soil in Austin, Texas, in the inaugural ATX Open, choosing instead to play in Monterrey she has featured in the main draw on two occasions.

Dolehide qualified for her third main draw at the weekend after beating local favorite Marcela Zacarias 6-4 7-5 in an hour and 52 minutes. She backed up her win over Laura Pigossi with a hard-fought straight-sets win over the Mexican.

It was a match that was littered with too many errors, with neither player looking comfortable on serve. Overall there were 10 breaks, with Dolehide just edging Zacarias by breaking serve six times.

The American will need to improve her serve immensely to compete with Niemeier. She won 24% points behind her second serve and coughed up four double faults. Such numbers are unlikely to strike fear to the big-hitting German.

Niemeier v Dolehide Prediction and Tip

Dolehide did a great job to qualify for her first WTA main draw of 2023, but Niemeier will absolutely be all over that weak second serve of hers. If the German can get overcome her mental hiccups, she will win this easily.
