Lauren Davis has had a really strong start to this year playing 17 matches already and winning 12 of those. It’s been a really strong run for her as she managed to win a trophy in Hobart as well as make her way to the top 50.
The American now hopes to transfer that good play to her home soil where hoping to move past the second round of this event. She’s reached that stage of the Indian Wells Masters a couple of times before but she’s never arrived at the event in such good form.
Her most recent event was in Dubai so she should be well-rested for this event. Her game is an interesting blend of tricks and very strong groundstrokes. She has a great backhand that is her best shot but can do a lot of damage with her forehand as well.
As many Americans, she does play her best on home soil so certainly aims to win this match. She never played Zanevska but the Belgian is a player you can attack and I expect her to do exactly that.

Losing Streak for Zanevska
Maryna Zanevska arrives in California with a losing streak as the last three outings were all losses. She’s a clay player predominantly so she’ll never be that great of a hard court player though she can play well indoors.
Her game is generally very weak against attacking players, especially on faster courts which doesn’t allow her much time to get the ball back. Her serve is rather solid which will be something useful for this event specifically. She lost in the first round last year but her serve kept her in the match very long.
She’ll need to serve well if she hopes to get this done but she will issue in the rallies. Her opponent has a good combination of flat groundstrokes along with a tricky drop shot which can be useful in conditions like these.
If this was a clay matchup her chances would be higher but generally, on hard courts it seems like a tough ask. Still, a good serving performance could help her tremendously.
Davis v Zanevska Prediction and Tip
For me, this is a simple one. Davis is the better player and plays at home so I think she’ll win. Not sure if it goes in two sets but I think it will.
