Kostyuk Wins Maiden WTA Title Last Week

It was building up to be a strong sort of a start to the season but Kostyuk would have been specially proud of the manner in which she completed her first ever WTA title win last week.

Close on the heels of successive second round losses at Abu Dhabi and Dubai, Kostyuk overcame Danielle Collins and Varvara Gracheva in straight sets to lift the Austin Open title. She lost only one set in the entire tournament.

And it’s not like the Austin title was the only time Kostyuk has looked like she has been a part.

There have been different occasions; namely at the Adelaide International where she made it through as a qualifier to make the quarterfinal with a win over Elena Rybakina, at the Australian Open where she entered the third round having defeated Amanda Anisimova and a quarterfinal appearance at Hua Hin Open as well.

Can she now convert that form into something special at the Indian Wells Open where she had made the second round the last two times she was here.

Peterson Coming off Merida Final

While Kostyuk has looked like a player in form, Peterson has not been too far behind even though a part of it has been on the ITF circuit.

The Swede, who has now fallen to outside the top 100 on the WTA charts, came through as a qualifier at the Merida Open two weeks ago and went on to nearly win the title.

With wins over Nadia Podoroska, Alycia Parks and Magda Linette, Peterson made it to the final where she met her match in the form of Camila Giorgi.

Earlier in the season she has participated in the Orlando ITF circuit and reached the final there as well.

All of this has helped her climb up more than 40 spots on the WTA Rankings but she is still 60 ranks behind her career-best. Can she turn things here?

Kostyuk v Peterson Prediction and Tip

Kostyuk is 4/9 to win this and the good news for her is she has had a break between her final at Austin on Sunday and this match which will be played on Thursday. That should be enough for the Ukrainian player to carve out a win.
