Andrey Rublev v Jiri Lehecka Head to Head

There have been two previous meetings between these two players before this and both have won one. Rublev needed three sets to get past his opponent on the clay courts of Belgrade in 2022 before Lehecka got his revenge earlier this year at the Qatar Open.

Rublev Returns after Dubai Final

It’s been bit of a mixed start to the season for Rublev and the swing between his best and his worst has been quite drastic too. This is a bit of a surprise given how consistent Rublev has been in the earlier years.

Of the six tournaments that he has featured in, Rublev has lost in the first round on three occasions. To give you a context, Rublev went out in his opener of tournaments just four times in the entire previous season.

In the remaining three, however, Rublev has shown signs of what he is capable of.

At the Australian Open, Rublev made it as far as the quarterfinal before Novak Djokovic got the better of him. In Dubai in the lead-up to this tournament, Rublev was a losing finalist to Daniil Medvedev.

The only other tournament in which he did win his opener but did not go far enough was in Doha where it was Lehecka who ended his stay. Can Rublev extract his revenge?

Lehecka Scrapes Past Rinderknech

Lehecka has been one of the players of the season among those not in the top 20 thanks to his deep runs and the players he has surmounted while doing so.

We have already spoken about Rublev being at the receiving end of his skills in Doha last week, but other than that, Lehecka has already defeated Cameron Norrie, Felix Auger-Aliassime and Emil Ruusuvuori this season.

And in the first round here against Arthur Rinderknech, Lehecka might have needed nearly two hours to get past his opponent but he got through in two. Lehecka won 7-6 (4), 7-5 in a match which saw a whopping seven breaks of serves in total.

Rinderknech went 2-0 up and dropped his serve and then again 4-2 ahead before losing his serve. Lehecka then saved two set-points before winning the tie-breaker that followed.

The second set was slightly better for Lehecka where he broke first and while he lost his serve after that, he was all over his serve for the second time to carve out the victory.

Can he continue to make it count against Rublev?

Rublev v Lehecka Prediction and Tip

While Rublev starts off a favourite, there is a wariness to back either player here given how they have gone about their business in recent times. We could still a longish encounter though.
