Maria Sakkari v Anhelina Kalinina Head to Head
Anhelina Kalinina leads Maria Sakkari 1-0 in their head-to-head meetings, winning a second-round match in Eastbourn last year in three sets.

On the fourth attempt, Maria Sakkari was able to defeat Shelby Rogers, but she was made to work for the win. Sakkari came from a set and a break down to upend the American who has been a nightmarish opponent for her in the past.
Sakkari took a little over two hours to record a 2-6 6-4 6-0 win inside Stadium 1, and reaches the Indian Wells third round for the third time on a very good day for seeded players.
Rogers breezed through the opening set, pinning Sakkari behind the baseline and painting the lines and finishing points with some exquisite touches. And when the American went up an early break in the second set, the writing appeared to be on the wall.
Sakkari though had other ideas. She saved numerous break points including three from 0-40 down at 4-all. Rogers would not win a game from that point as the Greek went on a spree, winning seven straight games to hand Rogers a first defeat in their series.

Kalinina Ousts Fruhvirtova In Dramatic Fashion
It wasn’t just Sakkari who succeeded in plotting a comeback win on Friday. But Ukraine’s Anhelina Kalinina had one foot out of the tournament when she trailed Linda Fruhvirtova 5-2 in the third set of their entertaining, but low-quality second-round match.
For most of the afternoon, Kalinina played on the back foot but still came away with a 4-6 6-4 7-5 win over the young Czech, saving a match point in the process to reach the third round of Indian Wells for the first time.
Fruhvirotva served horrendously, conjuring up an eyebrow-rasing 21 double faults (precisely seven in each set) and winning a measly 27% second-serve points. But as poor as the Czech’s serve was, Kalinina let her off the hook, particularly in that first set where the Ukrainian recovered from 0-4 down, but still ended up losing the set.
Kalinina regrouped and was all over Fruhvirtova’s second serve in the second set, breaking the Czech three times. In the decider momentum shifted back to Fruhvirotva who had a match point on the Kalinina serve at 5-3, and served for the match at 5-4, but incredibly could not cross the finishing line.
Sakkari v Kalinina Prediction and Tip
Kalinina’s comeback was outstanding, but her performance was nowhere near her best. With Sakkari finally solving the Rogers’ riddle for once, the Greek should be a solid pick to make the fourth round.
