Jessica Pegula v Anastasia Potapova Head to Head

Pegula leads 2-0, last beating Potapova in the 2021 US Open 6-2, 6-2.

Pegula Survives Giorgi

World No. 3 Jessica Pegula started her BNP Paribas journey with a 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 win over Italy’s Camila Giorgi. That two-hour affair served as a good practice run for the American to maintain her rhythm.

She arrived home after a superb middle east swing where she was the runner-up in Doha and a semi-finalist in Dubai. This was, in turn, built upon her solid campaign in January where she won the United Cup with her fellow teammates and made it to the final eight in the Melbourne Slam.

Jessica has been in such sensational form for the last couple of seasons and hit her stride only in 2022.

She reached the quarters in three of the four majors, along with a quarterfinal feat at the very least in five of the eight WTA 1000 tournaments. All in all, the 29-year-old closed the year 42-21 as #3.

Potapova Beats Wang

Anastasia Potapova, who also enjoyed a bye into round two, started with a long match against Xiyu Wang. The Russian won 4-6, 7-6(4), 6-2 and thus continuing her brilliant ascension in the tennis world this season.

The 21-year-young marches on with a career-best ranking of World No. 28, with her most notable recent achievement being winning the Linz Open.

Potapova also reached the quarterfinals in Lyon and made it to the second round in Austin before exiting the contest. However, her record is now 12-6, and when compared to Pegula’s, it may not inspire confidence.

While not yet a prominent name, Anastasia has proven to be a promising player, ending last season with a respectable 35-24 record. With her skill set, she is capable of testing her opponent and making the match a challenge.

Pegula v Potapova Prediction and Tip

Pegula has won this fixture twice and there is no reason why she can’t do it again, especially seeing that she is in her element.

Potapova faces an uphill task, but if she can start strong, she may just have a chance. Punters may want to consider backing her as an underdog.
