Coco Gauff v Rebecca Peterson Head to Head

It is 1-0 to Peterson; they last met in 2019 in a low-tier event in Midland where the Swede won 6-2, 6-1.

Gauff Keeps her Cool

Coco Gauff, turning 19 on Monday, welcomed her birthday in style with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Linda Noskova. In her opening match, she dismissed Cristina Bucsa with a similar score of 6-2, 6-4.

Now at 13-3, Gauff looks primed to reach yet another quarterfinal this year. Most recently, she was in Dubai where she made it as far as the semis. The only tournament where she was not among the final eight was the Aus Open, where she lost in the fourth round to Jelena Ostapenko.

Having also picked up her third WTA title in the ASB Classic in January, Cori is also cementing her place inside the top 10 quite nicely.

Gauff may be young, but her skills tell the opposite story. With plenty of matches with the elites under her belt, she has got some experience in handling herself well against the older athletes on the circuit.

Peterson beats Teichmann

It’s been an exceptional campaign for Rebecca Peterson in Indian Wells this time, considering that she had never made it past the opener in all her appearances here.

Starting as a qualifier (beating Simona Waltert and Caroline Dolehide), she first defeated Marta Kostyuk 7-5, 5-7, 7-5. She was slated to play Shuai Zhang next but three games in, the Chinese retired from the match – giving the Swede a walkover into round three.

There, Peterson played Jil Teichmann and survived a tricky match with 3-6, 6-3, 6-1.

It is definitely an interesting result where luck had little to do with it all. The 27-year-old reached the final in her last two tournaments (ITF Orlando, WTA Merida) but lost the trophy game. With her record now at 15-3, her momentum cannot be undermined.

Gauff v Peterson Prediction and Tip

With Peterson pegged at 7/2 to win this one, punters may want to consider backing her as she fits the criteria of fielding experience and form. Gauff is a prodigious player, but as we have seen often in the past, even the giants can fall – especially when playing a formidable opponent.
