Andrey Rublev v Miomir Kecmanovic Head to Head

Rublev won their only meeting in Doha two years ago in straight sets.

Rublev Overcomes Wolf

Andrey Rublev served 16 aces and struck 36 winners on his way to a straight sets win over J.J. Wolf in the second round of the Miami Open on Friday.

Rublev, who was a semifinalist in 2021, is into the round of 32 in Miami for just the third time in his career.

The world no. 7 started off slowly, dropping serve in the very first game of the match, but he broke back late in the set and then edged the tiebreak to take a one-set-to-love lead.

In the second, Rublev faced five break points and he saved all five of them. The Russian had only one opportunity to break the world no. 50’s serve and he took that to seal the one hour and 42 minute contest 7-6 (7-3), 6-4.

With the win, Rublev improved his season record to 12-7. The Australian open quarterfinalist featured in the final in Dubai a couple of weeks back, only to fall to Daniil Medvedev.

He had made it to the round of 16 in Indian Wells, can he do that in Miami?

Kecmanovic Battles Past Humbert

Facing Rublev will be Miomir Kecmanovic, who battled past Ugo Humbert in the second round.

The Serb faced 11 break points in the match and he saved 10 of them. Meanwhile he had seven opportunities to break Humbert’s serve and he converted two of them to win the two hour and 45 minute contest 6-4, 6-7 (5-7), 7-6 (7-3).

Kecmanovic struck 10 aces and 33 winners to Humbert’s 8 aces and 56 winners. But he made fewer unforced errors in the match, making just 17 of them, 21 fewer than the frenchman.

Seeded no. 29th, the world no. 35 improved his season record to 8-7. He was a finalist in Delray Beach this year and also featured in the last eight in Adelaide-2.

Friday’s win ended a three-match losing streak for the Serb. That streak began with a defeat to Taylor Fritz in the final of the Delray Beach Open.

A quarterfinalist in Miami last year, Kecmanovic will be looking to match that performance this year, but faces an extremely tough opponent in the third round.

Rublev v Kecmanovic Prediction and Tip

Rublev is the more experienced player with a superior game and record on the tour. Expect him to ease past the Serbian player.
