Sebastian Baez v Pedro Cachin Head to Head

There have been two previous meetings between these two players at the Futures and Challengers level and both were won by Baez. This will be their match at the highest level.

Baez Stretched by Albot

While Baez did not need a third set to get past Radu Albot, it wasn’t a win without any hiccups.

In fact Baez would be the first to admit he could have done a lot better than drop his serve on four occasions from the 12 break-points he faced in the entire match. That he broke his opponent five times was the redeeming factor, as was the fact that he managed to hold his nerve at crucial junctures.

Like at 5-5 in the first set, the Cordoba Open winner found a way to get past Albot’s serve before serving out the set.

And then in the second he was down a break on two separate occasions but came back to level things out. Especially when his opponent served for the set at 5-4.

In the tie-breaker, Baez found extra rhythm and eased past his opponent, winning 7-5, 7-6 (3) to set up this meeting with the fellow Argentine.

Cachin Has No Worries against Tseng

In a match that lasted an hour and 36 minutes, Cachin carved out a straight-set win over Chun-hsin Tseng to seal his second round berth.

Cachin blasted six aces but needed to come back from being a break down in both sets to register his win. He fell 0-2 down in the opening set but soon levelled things up in the fourth game. He then lost just two points on serve in the rest of the set before breaking Tseng at 4-5.

In the second, Tseng had a longer stint with a break of serve that took him to a 4-2 lead. From there on, however, Cachin won four games in a row to complete a 6-4, 6-4 victory.

This was only his third main draw win of the season and second on clay. He now has a far more difficult task against a player who has had the better of him and does a good job of things on red dirt.

Baez v Cachin Prediction and Tip

While Baez did not have the most straightforward of opening encounters, it could have been down to getting back his groove on clay. Against Cachin he shouldn’t have any such problems.
