Yastremska Was a Quarterfinalist Last Year

A quarterfinalist in Bogota last year, Dayana Yastremska returns this year for her second main draw appearance in the tournament.

The 22-year-old is 9-9 across levels in 2023. But six of those wins have come in qualifying rounds. Her three main draw wins came against Japan’s Moyuka Uchijima in the first round in Hua Hin, Alizé Cornet in Dubai and Anna Bondár in Indian Wells.

Most recently, she played in the qualifying rounds in Miami, winning the first qualifying round against Caty McNaly but falling in the second to Anna-Lena Friedsam.

Yastremska, who has won three titles in her career, has won one of those on clay in Strasbourg in 2019.

The title aside, Yastremska has had little success on clay, with most of her successes coming on hard courts. The world no. 134 will be hoping to make a good start in her first clay court tournament of the season.

Alves Makes it to the Main Draw

Carolina Alves made it to her first tour level main draw of the season.

The Brazilian, ranked no. 239th in the world, bounced back from a set down to beat Romania’s Irina Bara in three sets in the first qualifying round.

She then knocked out Switzerland’s Joanne Zuger in straight sets in the second qualifying round to reach the main draw.

She has been in good form on clay this season. The 26-year-old right-hander is 13-8 overall this season and 13-7 on clay.

Alves is a five-time winner at the ITF level, and has won all five of them on clay. She reached her 16th ITF final this year, finishing runner-up in ITF Tucumán, Argentina.

Can she carry her qualifying round form into the main draw?

Yastremska v Alves Prediction and Tip

Yastremska is the more experienced of the two; the 22-year-old had reached a career-high ranking of no. 21 in 2022. So she has done well at the top level and will be looking to make a deep run in Bogota.
