Carol Zhao v Francesa Jones Head to Head

World No. 173 Carol Zhao was originally slated to start in the qualifiers of the Copa Colsanitas 2023, but as fate would have it, she was moved to the main draw.
Despite her past success, the 27-year-old Canadian tennis player has experienced a recent string of defeats. In particular, she was eliminated in the opening qualifying rounds of the Austin and Miami tournaments and subsequently lost to Raluca Serban in the San Luis Challenger. Given this poor form, some may argue that her defeat in the upcoming Bogota tournament is inevitable.
Despite that, she fought hard in the opening match with Marie Carle in Bogota, battling for three and a half hours. Carol won the match 4-6, 7-5, 7-6(8) – saving four match points in the deciding set (three in the tiebreak).
Overall, Zhao is now 5-8 in 2023.

Jones Records a Huge Win
Francesca Jones, age 22, started strong by beating the experienced Spaniard Nuria Parrizas Diaz 7-6(3), 6-1. It was quite a feat, considering that Jones was playing in her first WTA main-draw match since the Wimbledon Championships of 2021.
The Brit, who is now ranked #817, played only two competitive matches in the whole of 2022 – both in Jan. Since her return to the fold in 2023, Francesca has spent her time on the ITF circuit.
Her record is 8-5 to date, supported by a couple of deep runs.
When Jones cracked the top 160 in 2021, it was largely due to her superb spell on clay – 25-11. All of her ITF doubles finals have also come on the same turf.
Zhao v Jones Prediction and Tip
When it comes to clay court matches, Jones has a stronger overall record than Zhao. However, despite this advantage, the younger player lacks both experience and a recent run of good results.
Zhao is the favourite for us, but Jones can very well surprise too.
