Kasatkina Routs Brengle

Kasatkina had been struggling to get going in the season with the Russian not won successive matches in just one of the eight tournaments she has played in 2023.

Which is why a strong start in her first clay court match of the season was quite necessary for the world number eight as she looks to sustain her top-10 ranking in the world.

And that’s exactly what she did.

In a match lasting a mere 51 minutes, Kasatkina carved out a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Madison Brengle to the third round of a tournament she has won once before. Kasatkina’s win was based around her serving which saw her lose just 10 points and which also meant she did not face a single break-point in the encounter.

In turn, Kasatkina also broke Brengle four times – twice in each of the two sets. Brengle ended with a rather sorry 15 points won on serve from 36.

Kasatkina will face a far bigger challenge against Pera who loves her time on clay and has won two career titles on it too.

Pera Continues Her Winning Streak

Pera had ended the clay-court previous season with back to back title victories at Hamburg and Budapest. And with two wins in two matches here, Pera has extended her winning streak on clay to 12 in a row – no mean feat.

After having needed three sets against Claire Liu in the first round, Pera looked to be in full rhythm in the second as she carved out a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Cristina Buca. Pera was on court for an hour and 38 minutes there.

It wasn’t like Pera did not face her own issues, especially on serve when she lost her serve at 2-0 in the first set and then successively in the fourth and sixth games in the second.

Trailing 2-4 in the second set, Pera then broke back, saved another break-point before running through with successive games and sealing her place in the third.

Having made the quarterfinal here once before, Pera sure would be hoping a repeat of that but can she overcome a top-10 player here?

Kasatkina v Pera Prediction and Tip

Kasatkina is a favourite but we think it would be a lot closer than the 2/5 odds on show for her win.
