Tatjana Maria v Nuria Brancaccio Head to Head

They have played each other on the WTA 125 circuit with Brancaccio having won that encounter on clay in 2022.

Maria Eases Past Alves

For the second match in a row, Maria did not face too many issues in overcoming her opponent as she went on to seal her spot in the quarterfinals.

Looking to win this title for the second year in a row, Maria registered a 6-2, 6-4 win over Carla Alves in a match that lasted an hour and 43 minutes.

Maria raced off to two breaks of serve in the first six games of the match and closed out the first set with ease, not facing too much trouble on her own serve. Alves came into her own for a bit in the second set when she broke back in the fourth game but from that point it was Maria who dominated proceedings again.

The German broke right back in the fifth game and then saved two break-points to take a 4-2 lead. She held on to her serve, losing just one point over the next two games to claim her quarterfinal berth.

She will now hope to avenge her previous result against Brancaccio.

Brancaccio Makes it Four in Four

Brancaccio was ranked 484th in the world last year while ending the season at 267th. This year, by the dint of some strong performances on the ITF circuit, she had come close to breaking into the top 200 on the WTA charts for the first time.

And with a straight-set win over Sinja Kraus in the second round, she would have not just entered the top 200 but also smashed her way into the top 175.

After having routed Despina Papamichail 6-2, 6-2 in her first round encounter, Brancaccio dished out the same scoreline at Kraus to make it through to the last eight of a WTA tournament for the first time in her career.

She had earlier made it to the main draw with a couple of wins in the qualifiers too, making this her fourth win in a row and 17th of the season to go with just five defeats.

And having overcome Maria before this, Brancaccio will know she has a sniff here.

Maria v Brancaccio Prediction and Tip

While Maria is a way better player on paper, Brancaccio has some excellent momentum and we won’t be surprised if she makes life on court difficult for her opponent.
