Francisco Cerundolo v Dan Evans Head to Head

Their only previous meeting came at the 2022 French Open and Evans had won that one.

Cerundolo Sends Ruud Out

Despite starting out a 9/5 underdog in his third round match against the former world number two Casper Ruud, Cerundolo eased his Norwegian opponent to make it his second quarterfinal appearance in three tournaments.

Cerundolo was on court for nearly two hours in his 7-6 (5), 6-3 win as he made it his seventh win on clay for the season. He has also lost five matches.

In a cagey contest, Cerundolo lost his serve on only one occasion and that came early in the first set which allowed Ruud to go 4-1 up. Very soon Ruud was 5-2 up but he failed to avail of the two set-points he got at 5-3 and was then broken.

In the ensuing tie-breaker, Cerundolo raced away to 4-0 lead and very soon thwarted any fightback from his opponent.

The second set was a lot easier, with Cerundolo going 3-0 ahead and losing just seven points on serve in the whole set. He will be a heavy favourite against Evans.

Evans Shakes off Odds to Down Khachanov

Evans was a whopping 3/1 entering his third round match against Karen Khachanov but all of that didn’t matter too much as the British number two raced away to an easy win over the Russian.

In a match that lasted less than an hour and a half, Evans sealed off a 6-3, 6-4 win over Khachanov to make it his second win in a row for only the third time this season and second time on clay.

It was Evans’ strong serving which saw him win 73% and 61% of his first and second serve points that took him over the line as he saved all five of the break-points he faced in the encounter. On the other hand, Khachanov broke his opponent once in each of the two sets to surprise the world number 11.

Such has been Evans’ form that this win should do him wonders with the Brit having entered this tournament on the back of a mere five wins and 11 defeats for 2023.

Can he now grab another scalp?

Cerundolo v Evans Prediction and Tip

Cerundolo might be a favourite here but we cannot rule out Evans on account of his form. Expecting a keen tussle that goes into a third set.
