Anastasia Potapova v Elisabetta Cocciaretto Head to Head

Their only previous meeting came at the 2022 Guadalajara Open and Cocciaretto had crushed Potapova in that encounter.

Potapova Stalled by Kudermetova in Madrid

Having hit a career-high ranking of 25th in the world, Potapova had a first round bye at the Madrid Open two weeks ago before she came through in three sets against Jacqueline Cristian in the second.

And coming up against the higher-ranked, fellow Russian Veronika Kudermetova, Potapova was a 4/6 favourite too given how well she had performed all season. Unfortunately for her, Potapova fell to Kudermetova in a fighting three-setter.

She would push that result to the back-burner as one of those things that sometimes happen. Potapova will also know she has had the overall form to get the better of most players outside of the top 20 – and some in the top 20 too, like she did against Caroline Garcia.

Which is why, it’s no surprise Potapova will hold a huge edge in her second round tie here.

Cocciaretto Routs Davis in Opener

Slowly but steadily, Cocciaretto is making her presence felt in the top echelons of the WTA circuit and that can also be seen from the fact she started off in this tournament ranked 45th in the world – her career-best ranking.

And Cocciaretto showed why.

In her first round match against USA’s Lauren Davis, Cocciaretto was able to come through in two easy sets and a mere 70 minutes. She won 6-3, 6-0 in a match that saw nine breaks of serves including two on her own serve.

Never, however, was Cocciaretto behind on serve, having once taken a 4-1 lead as well. While Davis pulled one break back, Cocciaretto broke back as the American served to stay in the set at 3-5 and then went on to win six games in a row to close out the match.

She could prove to be a handful for Potapova.

Potapova v Cocciaretto Prediction and Tip

While Potapova starts a favourite, even the bookmakers haven’t made her a huge favourite with the Russian starting out 8/15 to win this. We think it could get a tad tight though with a possibility of a third set always there.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Cocciaretto to win a set: 8/15
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 21.5 games in the match: 5/6
