Barbora Krejcikova v Jelena Ostapenko Head to Head

Ostapenko leads 3-2 head-to-head. While the Latvian had won the first two meetings in 2015, Krejcikova has been more dominant in recent fixtures, winning in Dubai  in 2021 and at the Australian open last year. Ostapenko won their latest meeting in Doha last year.

Barbora Krejcikova has been in fine form this year and the 2021 French Open champion improved to 4-2 on clay as she moved into the third round of the Rome Open.

The 10th seed, who had a first round bye, advanced to the round of 32 after her second round opponent Danka Kovinic retired while trailing 2-6, 1-4.

The world no. 13 Krejcikova was broken twice in the match and had converted 6 of 11 break points before the Montenegrin withdrew from the contest.

Krejcikova is now 20-9 for the year. She had won the Dubai Open this season to lift her sixth tour-level trophy. Besides the title success in Dubai, she has not reached another quarterfinal this year but has fallen in the round of 16 seven times. This includes back-to-back round of 16 appearances in her previous two clay court tournaments in Stuttgart and Madrid.

A win on Sunday would take Krejcikova into another round of 16.

Ostapenko Battles Past Cirstea

World no. 20 Jelena Ostapenko battled past Sorana Cirstea in a three-set second round contest on Friday.

The Latvian had 17 breaking opportunities in the match and she converted six of them. In contrast, her opponent held 13 break points with Ostapenko saving nine of them.

The match lasted two hours and 17 minutes with Ostapenko beating the Romanian 6-3, 3-6, 6-2.

With the win, the 2017 French Open champion improved her season record to 15-10. She reached the quarterfinals at the Australian Open but has not made it that far in any other tournament, falling in the round of 16 six times.

Ostapenko has made it to the quarterfinals in Rome twice in her past seven appearances. She has got a pretty good record on clay and her next round match against a fellow French Open champion promises to be a thriller.

Krejcikova v Ostapenko Prediction and Tip

Krejcikova has looked pretty good this season and has beaten some big names, including four top 10 players this year. In addition, the Czech has reached the round of 16 in 8 of her 9 tournaments this year. Expect her to edge past Ostapenko and reach another round of 16 on Sunday.
