Iga Swiatek v Donna Vekic Head to Head

There have been three previous meetings between these two players and Swiatek has won all three of them. This includes a win in the final of the San Diego Open last season.

This will be their first match on clay.

Swiatek Continues to Toy With Her Opponents

A first round bye and a double-bagel against Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova was followed by another straightforward win for Swiatek who looks to be in ominous touch heading into the French Open.

While Swiatek was stopped short in her tracks at the Madrid Open by Aryna Sabalenka who defeated her in the final, the world number one doesn’t look like she is going to be bullied by those ranked outside the top 20.

Lesia Tsurenko has done her bit in recent times to improve her play but that was never going to hold a candle to the quality of Swiatek. The Polish player was on court for a mere hour and 17 minutes in her 6-2, 6-0 rout of Tsurenko.

Swiatek did lose her serve in the very first game of the game and then fell 0-2 behind but from that point onward, she went on to win 12 games in a row. That’s the second time in as many matches has Swiatek clinched 12 successive games.

And while Vekic will be a tougher opponent, it might not make too much of a difference to Swiatek the kind of mood that she is in.

While Swiatek is routing opponents left and right, Vekic needed to fight back from a set down for the second match in a row to win her encounter.

Vekic, who was 6/4 going into the encounter, overcame Liudmilla Samsonova 2-6, 7-6 (5), 6-2 in two hours and 40 minutes to seal her fourth round berth.

After getting broken twice in the first set, Vekic retaliated with an early break in the second but then lost her serve yet again. In the tie-breaker that followed, it looked like it could be anybody’s set before Vekic edged forward from five points all.

And from that point on, it was all one-way traffic as Vekic broke twice to go 5-2 up and then clinched the match despite squandering four match-points.

This followed a similar second round win against Aliaksandra Sasnovich and Vekic will know she will need to do a lot better to hold her end in this upcoming round.

Swiatek v Vekic Prediction and Tip

  • Low Risk Tip: Swiatek to win in straight sets: 1/7
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Games Handicap Swiatek -7.5: 4/5
