Paula Badosa v Karolina Muchova Head to Head

Their only previous meeting came at the 2021 Wimbledon and Muchova had come away a straight-set winner in the fourth round there.

Badosa Towers Over Kostyuk

Having beaten Anna-Lena Friedsame easily in the first round, Badosa faced her first big challenge in the form of Ons Jabeur in the second. And the manner in which she came through, defeating the world number seven 6-1, 6-4 spoke volumes about how Badosa has begun to show signs of resurrection.

The Spaniard then used up just about an hour and a half to get past Marta Kostyuk in her next match to reach the round of 16 for the second time in a row at the Italian Open.

Badosa won 6-4, 6-2 despite losing her serve four times in the encounter – something she will need to be wary of as the tournament progresses.

Kostyuk grabbed a 3-1 lead in the first set but failed to keep up with the momentum as she lost her serve three times in a row to lose the set. The duo then traded four breaks of serves in the first games but from that point onward Kostyuk failed to win a game again.

Can Badosa now avenge her previous defeat at the hands of Muchova?

Muchova Continues with Her Good Form

She was ranked 151st in the world at the start of the season but the former world number 19 Muchova is making a dash towards her career-best ranking.

Irrespective of the result of this match, Muchova will climb to the 42nd spot on the WTA Rankings at the very least and a few more of such showings could even take her close to the top 20.

The way she is going about her business, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Muchova do just that. In fact it wouldn’t be a huge surprise if Muchova overcomes the 6/4 odds on offer as she tries to usurp the equally in-form Badosai.

Muchova enters the fourth round on the back of a straight-set win over Kamilla Rakhimova in the first round, a fighting victory over Martina Trevisan in the second and a 7-6 (4), 6-2 result against another Italian player in the form of Camila Giorgi.

Now to take on the might of her Spanish opponent.

  • Low Risk Tip: Over 8.5 games in the first set: 4/9
