Bouzkova Stuns Gauff

Cori Gauff is a top-five player but more vitally, she has some excellent record on clay having made the French Open final last year.

This year, she has found the going a tad tougher and Bouzkova took full advantage of her opponent’s form as she overcame a one-set deficit to come away a winner over Gauff.

Bouzkova needed over two hours but in the end she managed to wear Gauff down and register a 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 win and march into the fourth round. This follows a straight-set win over Caty McNally in her second round encounter.

Weather six aces from Gauff and three breaks of serves to go with it, Bouzkova overturned a topsy-turvy first set to blow her way past Gauff in the next two sets with four breaks of serves. Gauff was left without any answers as Bouzkova lost just four points on serve in the second set and seven in the third.

Can she now push forward against another top-20 player?

Kudermetova Edges Out Potapova

Given Anastasia Potapova’s form in recent times, it came as no surprise that both she and her opponent, Kudermetova were about 10/11 to win their third round match.

And the manner in which the match was played out, Kudermetova needed all of her skills and persistence to register a scrappy win over Potapova. Kudermetova won 7-5, 3-6, 6-1 in a match lasting two hours and 25 minutes to march into the next round.

Having defeated Nuria Parrizas-Diaz in the second round, Kudermetova exchanged four breaks of serves with Potapova in the first set to take them to 5-5. Then, for the first time in the encounter, Kudermetova went 6-5 ahead with her third break and served it out to clinch the lead.

Potapova came back from a break down in the second set to break Kudermetova thrice and wrap up the equaliser but that’s where her resistance ended. This was followed by Kudermetova taking a 2-0 lead and breaking Potapova once more to grab the set and the match.

The Madrid Open semifinalist will prove to be a handful for Bouzkova.
