Rebecca Peterson v Lucia Bronzetti Head to Head

Bronzetti leads 2-0, last beating Peterson in the 2022 Vancouver Challenger semifinal 6-2, 6-2.

Bronzetti Fielding Clay Form

Lucia Bronzetti of Italy is set to start from a position of strength in the Morocco Open 2023.

The 24-year-old arrived for the tournament after a semifinal result in the Florence Challenger. She ultimately lost to Jasmine Paolini in three demanding sets. Before this, her previous best result of the year came in ITF Croissy-Beaubourg, where she was a finalist (defeat to Jodie Burrage).

Up until that runner-up feat in April, Bronzetti had navigated a seven-match losing streak on the circuit.

Even after that tournament, her fortunes did not change much as she countered a pretty uneventful clay swing. It is rather surprising in some aspects since clay has been her strong suit (36-14 in 2021, 13-10 in 2022).

Lucia also made it to her sole WTA final on the surface – in the Palermo Ladies Open 2022.

Peterson Making her Clay Debut

World No. 86 Rebecca Peterson of Sweden is set to compete in her first clay tournament of the season.

Her last professional tournament was in mid-April in the Billie Jean King Cup Group Stage, where she guided her nation to three wins.

All in all, Peterson has enjoyed a pretty decent year. She is now 18-6 and has a few good results to her name – notably her runner-up feats in ITF Orlando and ITF Merida. She also reached the fourth round in the Indian Wells Open as a qualifier, beating Marta Kostyuk and Jil Teichmann en route.

Whether she can emulate these results on clay is yet to be seen. Historically, she has not done that well in the singles department on the red courts. Add to this equation her lack of practice on the surface this season, the odds seem to be with Bronzetti.

Peterson v Bronzetti Prediction and Tip

On one hand, Rebecca has some advantage owing to her superior experience and pedigree. However, Bronzetti has got a fair bit of traction on clay and that will play to her strengths in Rabat.

Lucia should fancy her chances here but it may not be an easy match for either of the two. Expect many games in the offing.

Tips:

  • Low-Risk Tip: Bronzetti to win: 4/5
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 20.5 games in the match: 5/6
