Khromacheva in Her First Main Draw of the Season

With a rank that low, Khromacheva has been relegated to featuring on the ITF circuit all season. And even there, she hasn’t done as well as she would have liked.

Over the 19 matches that Khromacheva has played all season, she has won a mere eight of them. And only twice has she won successive matches this year. Compared that to last season, Khromacheva had a slightly healthier record of 40-25 in ITF tournaments, with the chief majority of them coming on clay.

Khromacheva also tried to qualify for two WTA tournaments this season but lost before she could make the main draw at both.

She will now she can turn things around in her maiden main draw appearance of 2023.

Babos Regaining Lost Ground

Early in March this year, the former world number 20 Babos had fallen to 376th in the world. She was looking at a free-fall with results not coming her way last season and the Hungarian having not featured in any tournaments in the season before that.

Since then, Babos has played in five tournaments on the ITF level – this is her sixth – and won three of them! In one other she made the final which she lost.

On clay, Babos was 10-0 before entering this competition’s qualifiers and back to back straight-set wins have made that to 12 successive wins without a loss.

Babos will now play in her first WTA main draw match in a while and enters the tournament so high in confidence that it’s tough to see how the struggling Khromacheva can come close to upsetting her apple-cart.
