Zverev is a Former Champion

World no. 27 Alexander Zverev returns to Geneva four years after winning the title on his debut.

Zverev had defeated Nicolas Jarry in the final to lift the Geneva Open title in 2019. This year, Zverev will begin his campaign in the Round of 16 after receiving a first-round bye.

The German has played in four clay court tournaments this year, and has lost in the round of 16 in all four of them.

So overall it has been a mixed bag run for him on clay so far as he brings a 6-4 season record to Geneva. Overall, the 19-time tour-level champion has a 14-13 record in 2023 and his best was a semifinal finish in Dubai.

An excellent clay court player, Zverev is 6-3 in finals on the surface. He is a two-time French Open semifinalist and will be looking to reach his first quarterfinal on clay in 2023.

Eubanks Ousts Paire

World no. 75 Christopher Eubanks got his first ever win on clay at the tour level when he ousted Benoît Paire 7-6 (7-2), 6-3 in the first round on Monday.

After neither player was able to break in the first set, Eubanks dominated the tiebreak to take a 1-0 lead. He then kept the momentum going in the second, racing to a 4-0 lead. Paire pulled a break back, but Eubanks got a third break in the set to seal victory in what was his first-ever match on clay at the tour level.

Eubanks had a good run on hard courts this year, and was particularly impressive in Miami, where he went from qualifiers to the quarterfinals.

He also reached a semifinal and two quarterfinals at the Challenger level.

Can he pull off an upset on Tuesday? Seems unlikely.

Zverev v Eubanks Prediction and Tip

Zverev is far more experienced than Eubanks. He is also a far superior player on clay and is in decent form, so expect the German to win this match with ease.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Zverev to win: 1/9
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Under 20.5 games in the match: 5/6
