Jarry Breaks Losing Streak

Since winning the Santiago Open earlier this season, Jarry hasn’t quite found the same rhythm and his struggles have been magnified by the fact his results on clay also have been underwhelming.

He came into this tournament on the back of three successive defeats as well, having earlier lost in the first round of the Marrakesh Open. Defeats to Yannick Hanfmann and Roman Safiullin just before this tournament would not have been too pleasing either.

Which is why a 6-4, 6-2 rout of Dusan Lajovic in the first round here would have been more relief than anything else. In a match that lasted just 69 minutes, Jarry slammed 10 aces and finished with winning 36 of 42 points on serve.

He broke his opponent three times in the match while not facing a single break-point in the process.

Can he now catapult to another resounding win over an opponent who was a quarterfinalist here last season but has been in equally woeful touch on clay.

Griekspoor Scrapes Past Travaglia

Stefano Travaglia has dropped to 282nd on the ATP Rankings but that didn’t stop him from putting Griekspoor to the sword. In the end, Griekspoor managed to hold his end of the bargain of having started out a favourite and come through in two sets but it wasn’t easy.

Having lost his previous four matches, Griekspoor had also given the Rome Masters a miss because of fitness concerns.

Here he had started off a 1/2 favourite to win it against Travaglia but needed an hour and 45 minutes to come through. He was broken twice before clinching it 7-5, 7-6 (3), with Griekspoor’s 80% first serve winning percentage tilting the scales in his favour.

Griekspoor’s overall record on clay isn’t too different from other surfaces and at lower circuits, he has won 10 titles on this surface as well. It is down to how well he can get back his rhythm after his recent struggles.

Jarry v Griekspoor Prediction and Tip
