Zverev Easy Winner over Eubanks

Featuring in the Geneva Open as a means to fine-tune his preparations before the French Open, Zverev kick-started his campaign with a straightforward win over Christopher Eubanks.

Zverev was on court for an hour and nine minutes in which he demolished Eubanks 6-2, 6-3 to reach the last eight. He had had a first round bye.

In a clinical performance, Zverev faced just one break-point in the encounter and saved it, winning 88% of his first serve points. He also got 75% of his first serves in which looked to have made the difference between the two players too.

This follows a middling performance from Zverev throughout the clay-court swing so far.

He has registered successive wins at all the three Masters competitions – Monte-Carlo, Madrid and Rome – but lost in the third match. He was also ousted in his opener in Munich.

Can he go the distance here?

Yibing Overcomes the Odds for the Second Time in Geneva

Since winning the Dallas Open, Yibing had featured in five previous tournaments and in none of them he managed to win successive matches. In three clay court tournaments prior to coming to Geneva, Yibing had won just one match too.

Which is why he started off as a second favourite in both his first two rounds, against Marc-Andrea Huesler and then against Marco Cecchinato. And on both occasions Yibing has come away a winner.

Against Cecchinato, Yibing needed a shade over an hour and a half but managed to clinch his place in the last eight with a 7-6 (5), 6-3 victory. He was broken thrice in the process including twice in the second set where Cecchinato forged ahead too.

Yibing, however, managed to keep his cool and got the better of Cecchinato’s serve in the sixth and eighth games to march on.

Can he now take advantage of Zverev’s consistency issues?

Zverev v Yibing Prediction and Tip

Zverev might have lost a few on his way back to the circuit but most of those defeats have come against players of repute. This isn’t to say that Yibing hasn’t made a name for himself but he is no Carlos Alcaraz or Daniil Medvedev either – not yet anyway. Expect Zverev to ease through to a win.

  • Low Risk Tip: Zverev to win in straight sets: 8/13
