Rybakina Stock Continues to Rise

A Wimbledon champion and an Australian Open runner-up, Rybakina continued to show what she’s capable of when the Kazakh went on to lift the Indian Wells Open title at the expense of both, Iga Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka.

And this was followed by another final appearance at the Miami Open earlier this year.

Clay, however, isn’t Rybakina’s strongest suit and for a moment it looked like she would have to bide her time before getting back on to grass later this year. A second round defeat in Stuttgart and an opening loss in Madrid made it seem like that for sure.

The turnaround came at the Italian Open.

She sent Marketa Vondrousova out in the fourth round there, edged out an ailing Swiatek and then defeated Jelena Ostapenko and Anhelina Kalinina to win her first WTA 1000 title on clay.

Rybakina will be one of the players to watch out in this tournament.

Fruhvirtova in Early Stages of Her Career

She is all of 16 years of age and made it through to her second Grand Slam main draw, having done the same at the Australian Open earlier this season.

Fruhvirtova, who had won her first ever match on the WTA 125 circuit in 2021, won her second set of three successive qualifiers to enter the main draw here at Roland-Garros.

She overcame Antonio Ruzic from a set down and after facing a few match-points, before routing Kathinka Von Deichmann and Alice Robbe in the next two.

Earlier this season, Fruhvirtova had won a title on the ITF circuit in Bangalore, which followed the eight of them she had won in 2022. What’s interesting to note is all of these eight came on clay.

Can she now use that winning experience on clay at the lower level to get herself a surprise scalp?

Rybakina v Fruhvirtova Prediction and Tip

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Over 8.5 games in the first set: 8/11
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 18.5 games in the match: 10/11
