The title ended a five year drought for the Spaniard, who had won his maiden title in Ecuador in 2018.

In his most recent tournaments, Carballes Baena made it to the third round in Rome and the round of 16 in Geneva.

Overall, the 30-year-old is 13-13 this season, which includes an 11-8 record on clay.

Carballes Baena’s best result at the French Open was a third round finish in 2020. He brings good form in this year’s edition and will be hoping to make a solid start.

World no. 238 Emilio Nava won all three of his qualifying round matches against players ranked higher than him to reach the main draw of the French Open for the first time in his career.

The 21-year-old American, who has featured in the U.S. Open twice, will be playing in a first Grand Slam outside the New York major.

Nava’s route to the main draw included a straight sets win over Dimitar Kuzmanov in the first qualifying round; a three-set win over Liam Broady in the second qualifying round and come-from-behind three-set victory over Geoffrey Blancaneaux in the third qualifying round.

Nava has an overall record of 13-15 across levels and he is 5-5 on clay. He did well at the ITF and Challenger clay court tournaments over the last two years.
