Camila Giorgi v Alize Cornet Head to Head

The two players share quite a bit of history between them. This will be their 8th meeting on the tour, with Giorgi leading 5-2. She has won all of their last five meetings, three in straight sets and the most recent one coming in Lyon 2020.

Giorgi Coming off Mixed Results

Italy’s Camila Giorgi now ranked #36, is set to compete in her 10th French Open. She has been a regular here since 2012 and has an overall record of 9-9 in Paris – second only to the US Open.

Last year though, she did post her best results in the Slam by reaching round four for the first time in 10 years.

Admittedly, Camila’s chances of doing so this time around are quite slim. Should she beat Cornet, she will likely play the third seed Jessica Pegula next – from which point the competition will be trickier.

Her recent results don’t exactly inspire confidence either; Giorgi recently lost to Karolina Muchova in Rome round three – preceded by a first-match exit to Mayar Sherif in Madrid.

The Italian is 12-9 – largely due to her title run in the Merida Open in February – where she beat Sloane Stephens and Katerina Siniakova in straight sets.

Cornet in a Rut

Alize Cornet, age 33, last featured in Strasbourg, where she lost to Viktoriya Tomova in the opener.

That defeat puts her at 7-12 – amidst a lack of form and rhythm. Her best result was the Clarins Challenger, where she made it to the quarterfinal. In WTA events, Cornet has struggled a lot to bag multiple wins in a tournament.

In a season marred by early-round exits, Cornet’s prospects of winning this one are low.

That said, she did surprise everyone by reaching the quarterfinal in the Aus Open last season – in her 17th appearance in Melbourne. Cornet also has a lot of experience in Paris – as she has been a regular here since 2005.

Giorgi v Cornet Prediction and Tip

This will be a good match. Cornet can win this one – but it will take some doing. It is not an impossible feat by any means – since Giorgi herself has struggled often. If history is any indication, we may be looking at another long affair.

Tips:

  • Low-Risk Tip: Giorgi to win 2-0: 1/2
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Three sets in the match: 2/1
