Aryna Sabalenka v Marta Kostyuk Head to Head

This will be their second meeting. In the first, Sabalenka had eased past Kostyuk on the hardcourt of Dubai in 2022.

Sabalenka’s Growth on Clay Makes Her Player to Watch

Sure, she was knocked out of the Italian Open in the second round itself by Sofia Kenin but Sabalenka can easily shrug that off to one of those things that sometimes can happen. And that’s because of how she has gone about her on-court business in recent times.

Primarily known for her performances in hardcourt competitions, Sabalenka looks to have turned things around on clay as well with her performances in Stuttgart and Madrid this year.

Sabalenka, who has never reached the fourth round at the French Open before this, made the final at both the aforementioned tournaments. While Iga Swiatek managed to get the better of her in the former, Sabalenka shocked the world by overcoming the world number one in the title-decider at the Italian Open.

Add that to the two other titles Sabalenka has won this season – Australian Open and Adelaide International – and you are definitely looking at one of the pre-tournament favourites at the French Open.

Kostyuk Hoping to Find Her Footing on Clay

Kostyuk had won her maiden WTA title in Austin this year and that had propelled her to her career-best ranking of 36 in March. Unfortunately for her, she hasn’t managed to do much of note.

A first round loss at the Indian Wells Open was followed by a second round defeat in Miami, and that meant that Kostyuk had a lot of work to do when she switched over to clay.

Unfortunately for the 20-year-old Ukrainian, she hasn’t managed to do that so far. At the Madrid Open, Kostyuk was sent packing by Camila Osorio in the very first round and then fell in the third round in Rome to Paula Badosa. Her only win on clay in this period came against Claire Liu.

That being said, Kostyuk won’t be a pushover. She has shown she is capable of putting up a fight having defeated the likes of Garbine Muguruza, Barbora Krejcikova, Danielle Collins, Elena Rybakina and Daria Kasatkina in her career before this.

Sabalenka v Kostyuk Prediction and Tip

Sabalenka’s solidity on clay this season was put to test in Rome and she will hope she can make a sterling comeback. It’s a tough opening opposition for sure but that shouldn’t take too much from Sabalenka.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Sabalenka to win in straight sets: 1/2
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Under 19.5 games in the match: 5/6
