Madison Keys v Kayla Day Head to Head

These two players had met at the 2016 US Open where Keys had overcome Day 6-1, 6-1 to make the third round.

Keys Stretched by Kanepi

Kaia Kanepi did not make it too easy for Keys but in the end the 1/4 favourite American came through to win her opener in three sets.

Keys lost her serve once and was on court for over an hour and 40 minutes as she overcame Kanepi 6-1, 3-6, 6-1 to make it 5-2 on clay this season.

Having earlier made a quarterfinal appearance at the Charleston but having missed the Madrid Open, Keys helped herself to two breaks of serves in each of the first and third set.

It was the 31 winners that Keys hit which separated her in the contest with Kanepi managing just 13 of them to go with 23 unforced errors. Keys had earlier had a decent start to the hardcourt season where she won 11 of her 16 matches but hadn’t featured in a lot of clay court matches.

Having reached the fourth round here last season, Keys will hope she can keep winning and defending all those ranking points.

Day Routs Mladenovic

There were no surprises here, except maybe how the first set went for a while. Kayla might have had to play the qualifiers to make it through to the main draw here for the first time but she had begun a 1/4 favourite against home favourite Kristina Mladenovic.

And Day needed an hour and 37 minutes and two sets to get past Mladenovic.

The only time Day looked to be in a bit of a trouble is when she was broken in the third game of the match having taken a 2-0 lead earlier. She went on to save five break-points in the seventh game but from that point on there wasn’t too much that went Mladenovic’s way.

Day broke her opponent when she served at 5-6, and then rattled off two more breaks of serves in the second set to grab a 5-0 lead. Soon after she would close out the encounter in straight sets.

In winning this, Day had clinched her first main draw victory of the season and will now hope to give her opponent a bit of a fight here.

Keys v Day Prediction and Tip

Keys shouldn’t have a lot of trouble here and a straight-set win looks the most likely result.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Keys to win in straight sets: 8/11
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Under 20.5 games in the match: 5/6
