Mirra Andreeva v Diane Parry Head to Head

Andreeva and Parry have never faced off in a competitive match before this.

Andreeva Continues to Sparkle

Andreeva is only 16 years of age and was playing the out of form but very experienced Alison Riske in the first round. As a result, she started a whopping 7/100 to win the encounter and lived up every bit to those odds on offer.

In a match that lasted a mere 57 minutes, Andreeva routed Alison Riske 6-2, 6-1 to win her first ever Grand Slam match.

It came as no surprise too with Andreeva having shown earlier this season what she is capable of. Playing in her first tournament of the season on the ITF circuit, Andreeva had started out as a qualifier as the Chiasso ITF competition and went on to win the title.

She had followed it up with another ITF tournament win on clay and then made it to the fourth round at the Madrid Open before Aryna Sabalenka got the better of her.

With a whopping 21-2 win-loss record under belt for the season, Andreeva had no difficulties making it to the qualifiers where she got past all her three opponents in straight sets. And now with this opening round win against Riske in this manner, it’s no surprise she will start off as a huge favourite in the second round as well.

Parry Stuns Kalinina

Anhelina Kalinina had only recently made it to the final of the Italian Open where she was forced to retire from her match against Elena Rybakina because of injury.

Unfortunately for her, it looked like there still might have a few fitness woes as the 2/1 underdog Parry managed to carve out a 6-2, 6-3 win over the Ukrainian world number 26.

In a match that lasted an hour and 26 minutes, Parry held off Kalinina’s advances, saving both the break-points she faced. On the other hand, she broke Kalinina four times to register her first main draw win on clay.

Before this she had won the WTA Paris title, a part of the Challenger series but not done anything of note at the highest level. Things will suddenly get super difficult against Andreeva but Parry will want to give it her best shot and add to her winning run which is already five matches long.

Andreeva v Parry Prediction and Tip

It’s tough to go against Andreeva in her current form especially if one is backing a world number 79. Expecting Andreeva to win in straight sets again.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Andreeva to win: 9/20
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Andreeva to win in straight sets: 6/5
