Viktoriya Tomova v Elizabeth Mandlik Head to Head

Their only previous meeting came at the qualifiers of the 2022 Indian Wells Open and Tomova ran away to a straight-set win.

Tomova Hardly Won a Match on Clay

Tomova looked to have made a sterling start to the clay court swing as she won a title on the ITF circuit but the switch over to the WTA Tour did not bring too many laurels for the Bulgarian player.

She featured in five tournaments after that on clay, including a WTA 125 competition at Reus and the French Open but ended up with just two wins. At the French Open Tomova fought hard but came away with the second place against Ekaterina Alexandrova in the opener.

Grass has not too been that bad for Tomova but she would want to improve her performances on it for sure.

Like for example, she did make it to the quarterfinal of the Eastbourne competition and then the second round at Wimbledon but those were first string of wins on grass since 2018.

Can she now continue with that run she had last season as she kicks off her grass swing?

Mandlik Makes it Through the Qualifiers

Mandlik has never been ranked better than 117th in the world and she enters this tournament just two spots behind her career-best. She also made it through the qualifiers which was in line with the form that she had shown on clay when she made her first WTA final in Reus.

The American followed it up with a qualification for the French Open where she lost her opener before switching over to grass in Surbiton.

Playing an ITF competition there, Mandlik won her first round match before Yanina Wickmayer ended her stay at that competition.

Before featuring in Surbiton, Mandlik had never played on grass before which makes her wins over Iryna Shymanovich and Daria Snigur in the qualifiers even more impacting for her chances.

She might not start off as a favourite but has the game to take on a player struggling for overall form.

Tomova v Mandlik Prediction and Tip

Tomova is a 3/5 favourite but we can expect Mandlik to give a solid fight here. A three-setter could be on the cards too.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Over 8.5 games in the first set: 2/5
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 21.5 games in the match: 4/5
