Kudermetova on Grass Debut

So far, 20-year-old Kudermetova is more famous as the sister of the top-10 tennis star Veronika than her own play but there are signs she is improving. Currently she is ranked 141st in the world, which is a rank behind her career-best and a strong showing on grass could go a long way in helping her achieve that.

That’s because Polina hasn’t played any tennis on grass so far. Not at the competitive level at least.

But where she does look like she could adapt to the quicker nature of this surface is her performance on the ITF circuit indoors. The courts are a lot quicker there and that could reduce the time she needs to adapt to this grass debut.

Polina Kudermetova did not have the best clay court swing though. She featured in five tournaments on red dirt and ended up with just two wins – one in the qualifier at Rome and another last week on the ITF circuit.

Can she turn things around against Yue?

Yue Hoping to Build on Wimbledon 2022

Unlike Kudermetova, Yue has tasted the realms of grass before this, having featured in an exhibition tournament in Liverpool last year before playing at Wimbledon.

There, Yue had made it to the main draw of the tournament as a lucky loser, before falling 6-3, 6-4 to Amanda Anisimova in the first round of the tournament.

This year, the former world number 74 has had a mixed bag as far as overall performances go.

Spread across the qualifiers, ITF circuit and the Fed Cup, Yue enters the grass swing with a 15-13 win-loss record which includes an appearance in the final in a hardcourt competition.

On clay this season, Yue had a modest set of results. Just the previous week, she was a quarterfinalist at the WTA 125 tournament in Makarska having also made the second round in Paris for another tournament at the same level.

Can she now win her first ever main draw match on grass?

Kudermetova v Yue Prediction and Tip

Not much to choose between these two players with Yue expected to hold a very miniscule edge given her prior experience on grass. Backing her to come through in this one.

Tips:

  • Moderate Risk Tip: Yue to win: 10/11
  • Low Risk Tip: Over 8.5 games in the match: 4/11
