There have been previous meetings between these two players, both of which came in hardcourt competitions and Sinner has won them both.

Sinner kick-starts his time on grass with an opening match against Bublik and that should give him a certain amount of confidence given their head to head record.
The reason why he needs that confidence is Sinner is coming off a shock second round loss at the French Open having struggled with his fitness in a couple of tournaments before that.
Overall, however, Sinner’s record on grass isn’t the best for a player ranked in the top 10.
He did make the quarterfinal at Wimbledon last season but that was preceded by an opening loss at Eastbourne 2022, and first round defeats in the two tournaments he played in 2021 as well.

Bublik Stalls Goffin
He had started off a 3/4 favourite coming into his opener and Bublik managed to live up to those odds as he carved out a straight-set win over David Goffin.
It wasn’t the most straightforward of wins for Bublik but for a player who had entered the tournament on the back of an 11-20 win-loss record for the season, it was a much-needed win all the same.
Bublik was on court for an hour and 38 minutes in which he was broken twice but found a way past Goffin’s serve when it really mattered.
That happened in the 12th games of both the sets. In fact Goffin had a chance to serve for the opening set and was 4-2 up in the second but it was Bublik who found a way to come away a winner in both.
