Wimbledon Runner-up Jabeur Returns to Grass

Jabeur hasn’t played as much tennis as she would have liked this year because of fitness concerns but the good news is she looked like she was getting to her best the last time she was out on court.

That was at the French Open where Jabeur made the quarterfinal before falling to Beatriz Haddad Maia in a fighting encounter.

She had also won the Charleston Open, also on clay, pointing to the start of her turnaround after having entered that tournament on the back of four wins and four defeats before that in 2023.

Having made her maiden Grand Slam final on grass last year, Jabeur will begin this tournament with a lot of confidence under her belt too. With her injuries behind her and the results beginning to show a turnaround, Jabeur looks good to go deep here.

Niemeier Qualifies after Season Strife

Once on the cusp of breaking into the top 60 of the WTA Rankings, Niemeier’s ranking has plumetted to 120th at the moment and that has been down to her poor form all season.

In fact, since making it to the third round at the Madrid Open earlier this year, Niemeier has lost five matches in a row including her opening round encounter at the Nottingham Open. A defeat to Heather Watson who was at 11/10 pre-match odds would have hurt.

Which is why a couple of qualifying victories here including one against the 5/6 favourite Greet Minnen in the second qualifier would have given Niemeier some sort of a relief.

While defeating Jabeur would be too much of a task for the 120th-ranked player, Niemeier will hope to use her new-found confidence to try and make it difficult for her opponent.

Jabeur v Niemeier Prediction and Tip

Jabeur can be expected to ease her way through to the second round in straight sets.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Jabeur to win in straight sets: 4/7
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Under 19.5 games in the match: 10/11
